Salisbury Steak With Caramelized Onion Gravy


This savory and delicious dish is a true comfort meal. Make mashed potatoes on the side and pour extra gravy on the potatoes and you will fall in love and make this over and over again. Easy and quick meal that everyone will enjoy!!!!


Ingredients For The Caramelized Onion Gravy:

2 large red onions, thinly sliced
2 Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons all purpose flour
3 cups low sodium beef broth
1 Tablespoon ketchup
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
dash of salt and pepper


Ingredients For The Patties:

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4-1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon dry mustard ( you can also use 1 teaspoon of mustard if you do not have dry mustard)
1 Tablespoon ketchup
1 clove minced garlic
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon olive oil

Directions For The Patties:

1. In a large bowl combine the beef, egg, salt and pepper, breadcrumbs, mustard, ketchup, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce then using your hands shape into oval patties and set aside. Place olive oil in a sauté pan add the meat patties and cook on medium heat about 5 minutes per side until they become a nice brown color and  until no longer pink. Take out of pan and set aside.

Directions For The Sauce:

1. Using the same saucepan, on medium heat drain excess fat, add butter then the onions and cook until they become soft and a golden brown about 20 minutes, then add the beef stock, ketchup, salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and cover and cook on low for an additional 15 minutes then remove lid and whisk in the flour and cook for about 5 minutes, until slightly thickened.
2. Place patties back into saucepan, using a large spoon place all of the gravy on top of the patties and let simmer for 5 minutes on low. Serve with mashed potatoes.
